alchemy of layout–turning snoozy material into something you can't put down
Solutions House turned to Bowen Imagery on this project in need of an authentic, believable and fun creative solution for a 60-page book—all within a week. The "Travel Diary" concept was dreamed up by the ingenious David Dauman and his crew. The book takes on the seemingly dry subject of behavioral psychology and transforms it into an interesting, image-heavy diary that appears to have been taken through Africa on many safari adventures. To achieve the authentic effect, we purchased a few quality hand-written fonts from veer. For this project the scanner was our prized-possession. Scanning pages from my sketchbook became the background image of the entire book. Adding to the effect were a series of dirt, grass and leaf stains strategically placed on different pages with the addition of scanned scotch and yellow tape around the photos. A series of scratches, ink blots and cup ring stains also added to the effect and hand-sketched scenes of the savannah really brought home the mood.
